Tracking Dosage

Scenario

As a school or district leader, you would like to track whether classes or schools are meeting the recommended dosage for Speak Agent.

Interpreting the Data

Before you use our Reports module to track dosage, please bear the follwoing data notes in mind.

  • The % progress to meeting dosage is calculated as the total amount of activities completed divided by the number of students enrolled. On Dosage is 10 activities completed per month per enrolled student. This dosage is based on a full-year research study with 24,100 student participants.
  • If there are students enrolled in Speak Agent who are not actually intended to use the program, the dosage % will be artificially low.
  • If there are students who have not started using the program yet, that will also pull down the average dosage %.
  • Our dosage metric only tracks independent practice. Teacher-led or group instruction is not tracked in this report.
  • Research showed that students benefited linearly from a partial dosage, so some usage is certainly better than no usage.
  • Research also showed that the learning benefits continued to accrue well beyond the recommended dosage, up to at least 125% of dosage for mathematics and up to 250% of dosage for multilingual learners. We do not have enough data to say with a high level of confidence how much students would benefit from an even higher dosage. Further research will be needed to determine the point of diminishing returns.

How It Works

  1. Sign into Speak Agent and press the Reports menu item on the left side of the page. If you cannot see the Reports menu, you may not have administrator-level permissions. You may contact us to request access. This may require approval by your district or principal.
  2. Choose the date range, subject area, or other filter you’d like to report on and press Update Report.
  3. You will want to focus on the columns Target Dosage and % to Meeting Dosage.

    • Target Dosage. This represents the number of Speak Agent activities that need to be completed in order to attain the full benefits of the program. This target will change based on the date range you choose for the report and the number of enrolled students.
    • % to Meeting Dosage. This column uses horizontal bars to show the progress that a class section or school has made toward fulfilling the Target Dosage (10 activities/mo.) during the date range you selected.
